About — Rick Wyffels

Who is Rick Wyffels?

Rick was born in Canandaigua, NY on one of the largest dairy farms in Ontario County. Rick grew up working on the farm starting at a young age.

At age 17, Rick graduated from high school and left the farm to embark on a career in audio production.  He began by learning to mix monitors for WCMF’s “Live Quad Concert from the Downstairs Studio” radio program. His first major live sound event was with The Pure Prairie League at Nazareth Arts Center. Rick went on to be one of the youngest audio engineers in the country, working with groups such as Bruce Springsteen, REO Speedwagon, Livingston Taylor, Herbie Hancock, Dolly Parton, Pat Matheny, Dave Brubeck, Jose Feliciano, Rick Derringer,  Kool and The Gang, The Tramps, and many others.

One of the highlights in Rick’s audio career was being personally requested by Quincy Jones to mix for Michael Jackson, The Brothers Johnson and The Floaters at Carnegie Hall in 1977. At age 20, Rick received his New York State Real Estate License and added real estate and working in the family log home business to his responsibilities when he was not on tour. At age 21, the opportunity to move to Maui, Hawaii presented itself.  Rick worked as the manager of a jeep rental company, was the dynamite and nitro-glycerin technician on the Piilani Highway in Kihei, and worked as the manager of a car rental company. Rick earned a Hawaii real estate license on Maui in 1979 and worked with Stapleton Associates. After 5 years living on Maui, Rick was called home to help with the family businesses due to his father’s illness.  Rick’s responsibilities changed literally overnight, as the first day back in Canandaigua he was planting wheat on the family farm.  In addition to the farm, Rick also joined with his father’s partner in the log home business.

Rick re-activated his New York real estate license, and worked with several Canandaigua real estate companies over the next 30 years; GWF Real Estate, Coldwell Banker Lakeside Sales, McMillan Real Estate, ERA McMillan Real Estate, and Nothnagle Gallery of Homes. Rick is currently a licensed Real Estate Broker with Mitchell Pierson Jr, Inc. Realtors in Pittsford and Canandaigua, NY, and Hawaii Life Real Estate Brokers, the largest locally owned real estate company in the state of Hawaii.

A few years after returning to Canandaigua, Rick started Wyffels Pro Audio, a company specializing in freelance audio production, and installation of sound systems.  Rick also worked with law enforcement in several counties in the field of Forensic Audio.

The farm sold in the late 1980’s, and Rick devoted his time to Real Estate, Wyffels Pro Audio, finishing the Wyffels Road Single-Lot Subdivision started by his father and mother, and serving on the Canandaigua Town Planning Board.  With the Planning Board, Rick assisted in approvals in the town ranging from single family home building permits to large full scale sub-division approvals.  Rick also assisted in the writing of the Town of Canandaigua Master Plan. Rick’s company, Wyffels Log and Timberframe Homes was responsible for selling and building hundreds of log homes and timber frame homes, as a representative for Real Log Homes in Hartland Vermont, Timberpeg Post and Beam Homes in Claremont New Hampshire, and Timberframes Inc. in South Bristol NY.

In 2011, Rick and his wife Gina and two children visited Maui and the first of 7 real estate purchases took place.  In 2014, the model log home across from Bristol Mountain sold, and Rick and Gina relocated to Maui, Hawaii.  Rick is a Real Estate Broker with Hawaii Life Real Estate Brokers.  You can see their television program “Hawaii Life” on the HGTV Network.

In the last 8 years, Rick has closed nearly $40 million in transactions representing both buyers and sellers.
